What Does Success Mean to You? Exploring the Struggle Within Success

In our latest podcast episode, we delve into the multifaceted concept of success. Is it all about money and material wealth, or is there more to it? This episode is a deep dive into the various definitions of success, the struggles that come with it, and how our mindset can shape our journey.

We start by discussing the subjective nature of success. For some, success might mean achieving financial stability or owning a luxurious home. For others, it might be about personal growth, spiritual enlightenment, or making a positive impact on the community. Our hosts, Tena and Dutch, share their own perspectives on what success means to them and how they have navigated their own struggles to achieve it.

Neuroplasticity

Our Mind Vs. Matter shows are a cerebral experience. We talk about the brain and the spiritual realm. There is more than the material world and we have more than 5 senses.

  • Neuroscientists have long understood that the brain can rewire itself in response to experience—a phenomenon known as neuroplasticity.

  • Situations where your brain demonstrates neuroplasticity include learning a new language, practicing music, or memorizing how to navigate around your city

  • How the brain can adapt and learn- it’s the heart of skill & habit development, and even goal setting

Breakthrough research by a team at MIT’s Picower Institute for Learning and Memory has documented one type of environmental feedback that triggers plasticity: success. Equally important and somewhat surprising: Its opposite, failure, has no impact. (https://hbr.org/2010/01/success-gets-into-your-head-and-changes-it)

Success vs. Failure

On a neurological level, success is actually a lot more informative than failure.

If you get a reward, the brain remembers what it did right.

But with failure (unless there is a clear negative consequence, like the shock a child feels when she sticks something in an electrical outlet), the brain isn’t sure what to store, so it doesn’t change at all.

When we set a goal and take steps towards it, our brain releases dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure and motivation.

  • This release can create a sense of satisfaction and drive, propelling us forward. It’s nature’s way of rewarding our goal-directed behavior, encouraging us to repeat beneficial actions.

When you look at success as a whole, you think about your life and what you accomplished in it.

Everyone’s definition of success will be different.

  • It depends on an individual’s personal goals, core values, beliefs, expectations and upbringing.

  • For example: individuals who value helping people (giving alms) a part of their life mission. Creating a successful non profit organization that aides thousands or maybe even millions of people will most likely deem that a success

But this goes back to our life purpose episode because our mission should be to follow Yah’s will and not our own.

The ultimate level of success is receiving a crown from Yah, the 10th level of consciousness!

Measuring Success

Measuring success isn’t solely about the end result; it’s also about tracking progress, celebrating small victories, and learning from the process.

When you set a goal, there are going to be steps or milestones in place to reach that goal. Achieving a goal is not always easy and free from plight or struggle. Struggle is involved with overcoming or achieving.

  • It’s not just about reaching the goal or becoming successful; it’s about valuing the climb and learning from each step we take.

  • The Most High refines the ones he loves, in order for us to reach him, we have to take the necessary steps and with that comes trials and tribulations

  • We should always embrace the struggle or challenges as opportunities for development and see setbacks not as failures but as integral parts of the learning process.

  • We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.

  • Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.

Hebrews 10:36 (NLT)

  • Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do Yah’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.

Success from Yah vs. Satan

The issue is most people don’t seek out Yah’s purpose for their life rather than their own.

Yah will favor you in ways you can’t even imagine, the problem is that people are basing their measurement of success from the world’s view or satan’s view.

Examples of success from Yah

  • personal growth- Yah selected you and opened up your pineal gland, he removed the blinders from your eyes, he is now walking with you and refining you day by day. Everytime your faith is tested and you overcome, you are becoming more successful

  • contributions to others- You are helping people in many different ways than one

Examples of success from satan

  • Fame/worship; becoming an idol

  • Riches beyond measure

In conclusion, this episode is a thought-provoking exploration of what it means to be successful. It's a reminder that success is not a one-size-fits-all concept and that true success often lies in personal and spiritual growth rather than material wealth. Tune in to gain new insights and perhaps redefine what success means to you.
