Episode 267- Sinners Movie Review

In the latest episode of our podcast, we delve deep into the newly released film "Sinners," a gripping horror movie that intertwines themes of race, identity, and spirituality. Directed by Ryan Coogler, known for his work on "Black Panther," this film presents a unique narrative that challenges viewers to confront uncomfortable truths about American history and society.

Set against the backdrop of the Jim Crow era, "Sinners" follows the journey of two twin brothers, Smoke and Stack, played by Michael B. Jordan. The brothers navigate a world filled with racial tensions and personal demons, symbolized by the film’s vampire antagonist, Remic. This character serves as a metaphor for the oppressive forces that have historically preyed upon marginalized communities.

What's the deeper contextual meaning?

Sinners Film

This movie is about sin, death, and soul selling!

Vampirism, the ultimate death symbol!

Vampires were ranked with demons as the foremost agents of sin, a philosophy that became official Church doctrine in the Middle Ages. Witchcraft, devil worship, werewolves, vampires, and demonology were grouped as evils to be eradicated by mankind.

Many theologians believed that demons created vampires by entering and animating corpses.

The film uses Vampirism to depict eternal damnation. Vampires can't survive in "light" and can only thrive in darkness. People who lead a life in darkness will die and suffer external exile from the Creator. The Creator is the way, the truth, and the life! Like Vampire mythology, sin can only enter your house if you let it, and it will manifest to death once it is in.

Music, Satan's Favorite Gateway!

One way satan and demons can enter is through music! It's one of his favorite ways to enter because he was created with music. Many people say satan was the angel of music.

'Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyre, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord God ; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wastupon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. ‘- Ezekiel 28:12-14 KJV

The prince of Tyrus mentioned earlier in the chapter would be the earthly ruler of Tyre, while the king of Tyrus would be the devil who rules over the prince of Tyrus.

Satan Angel of Music

Music was considered to be one of the highest forms of magic. When someone sang or played an instrument, it was often to honor deities. In many traditional witchcraft practices, music is seen as a powerful tool for connecting with the divine and manipulating energy. Chanting and incantations are often central to these practices, with specific melodies and rhythms believed to hold special power.

Musical instruments also play a significant role in many traditional witchcraft practices. In Wicca, for example, the use of drums and other percussion instruments is common in rituals, with the rhythms believed to help create a trance-like state and connect with the deities.

Satan was the heavenly choir director, and he led the songs of praise to the Lord that still ring in heaven. When Satan fell in rebellion against Yah, he did not lose the natural abilities that Yah had given him. Therefore, he kept the tabrets and the pipes. But now, he does not use them to bring glory to the Lord but to turn Yah's creatures against their Creator.

Remmick represents many evils, but he serves as a portrayal of satan or demonic forces that are seeking whom they can destroy.

Sammy The Soul Seller

satan, like Remmick, needs to recruit as many people as possible to push forth his kingdom on earth. The character Sammy represents the soul seller. Almost all famous musicians today have sold their souls to satan. One of the first to do it is Delta blues musician Robert Leroy Johnson.

Robery Leroy Johnson

Robert Leroy Johnson was an American blues musician and songwriter. His singing, guitar playing and songwriting on his landmark 1936 and 1937

It was 1930 in Robinsonville, Mississippi, and 19-year-old Robert Johnson, an aspiring blues musician, was hanging out at a juke joint where Delta blues legends Son House and Willie Brown were playing to a packed house. Between sets, Johnson dared to pick up one of the musicians' guitars and play his own stuff, but the crowd wasn't having it.

The club owners tossed Johnson out of the Robinsonville juke joint and that was the last that anybody heard of him for a full year. Johnson simply disappeared from the Delta.

Upon his return- they realized something was different. Johnson took out his instrument, a regular six-string guitar fitted with an extra seventh string, something neither House nor Brown had seen before. But that wasn't the only new thing.

Johnson had acquired an insane skill level and unusual technique, strumming a series of rapid-fire chords that made the guitar sound almost like a piano — a piano with three hands playing it.

When the same soul-selling story was told of Robert Johnson, he did little to dispel the rumor. In fact, he may have cultivated the devilish connection. Of the 29 songs Johnson recorded before his untimely death at only 27 years old, there were "Cross Road Blues," "Hellhound on My Trail," "Me and the Devil Blues" and "Up Jumped the Devil."

In the end, Sammy forsakes the truth, the scriptures, his beliefs, and Yah for the pleasures of the world. That is what satan wants. He wants us all to lead a life of sin, "do what thou wilt" over Yah's will. Yah's will leads to life, satan's will leads to death.

Smoke & Stack: The Symbol of Duality

Smoke & Stack

The twins Elijah (Smoke) and Elias (Stack) represent duality.

Twins Smoke & Stack have the same name. The difference is merely a Hebrew/Greek translation. Smoke, having the Hebrew variation, could represent the original man. Stack, having the Greek variation, could represent the tainted man.

This duality often manifests through opposing forces that create balance in the universe, such as light and darkness, life and death, and order and chaos.

In ancient Mesopotamian Mythology, The Divine Twins are primarily identified as the gods Shamash and Sin, representing the sun and the moon, respectively. Each twin embodies distinct attributes:

  • Shamash: The Sun God, symbolizing light, justice, and truth.

  • Sin: The Moon God, representing darkness, mystery, and the passage of time.

The symbolism of duality is evident in their roles; Shamash brings illumination and clarity, while Sin provides reflection and contemplation.

Shamash’s light brings clarity and structure, while Sin’s darkness can evoke chaos.

The duality of life and death is another critical theme. Shamash’s light symbolizes life and vitality, while Sin’s darkness signifies death and the afterlife.

The twins Red and Blue clothing - duality- (i.e.-bloods and crips, democrats republicans)

The colors red and blue often symbolize two contrasting yet complementary energies: passion and calm

Red is often associated with passion, strength, and energy, while blue is seen as calm, stable, and trustworthy.

In Renaissance Europe, red and blue were used extensively in religious paintings, with red symbolizing sin and blue representing heaven.

Smoke & Annie

Stack and Mary

Smoke & Annie Vs. Stack & Mary

  • Annie represents the original woman/indigenous black woman; Yah is against interracial relationships; Smoke, being connected to the original woman, kept him protected, leading to a peaceful afterlife

  • Mary represents the Nephilim seed, a mutation of the original man; Stack messing with her is his demise; she leads him to his death, eternal damnation

The Hive Mind = The Spiritually Dead

Hive mind allows a group of people to share the same mind.

In some cases, one person could take control of another's separate body to add to the hive.

Like most hive insects, like bees and ants, each can work autonomously, though they think the same thing at the same time.

The members have little individuality; more or less, they are only marionettes controlled by a puppeteer.

satan wants us to follow him because it leads to death; he wants people to have the same mindset to become one with him.

Remmick emphasized how they were all connected; they all felt the same things (collective consciousness).

Remmick/satan infiltrated our community through various tactics, and we see them depicted in this film:

  • Music

  • Lawlessness (i.e., Interracial Relationships, adultery, treachery, drunkenness, etc.)

  • Other poisoned black people (those who are compromised and have the satanic hive mind)

  • Inviting others into our community.

    • Esau and Moab are our downfalls

      • Remmick/TheVampires/White supremacy = Esau- their evil nature makes them have an uncontrollable blood lust to destroy us.

      • The Chows = moab asian communities- they exploit and take advantage of our community.

"Sinners" is more than just a horror film; it is a mirror reflecting the complexities of our shared past and the choices we make in the present.
